Function of Verbena Officinalis Extract:

1.Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects: Water and alcohol extracts have anti-inflammatory effects on the inflammation caused by mustard oil dripping into rabbit conjunctival sac.The anti-inflammatory effects of the latter are better than the former.The water-soluble part of the latter is better than the water-insoluble part.The water extract had an analgesic effect on the electrical stimulation of pain caused by the dental pulp in rabbits. It began to disappear at 1 hour after administration,and disappeared after 3 hours.The analgesic effect of the alcohol extract disappeared completely after 6 hours,and the water-solubilizing effect was greater.The insoluble part has no analgesic effect.

  2.Antitussive effect:Verbena decoction has a certain antitussive effect,and its antitussive active ingredient is beta-  sitosterol and verbena.

  3.The role of the uterus:Verbena at a concentration of 1.6 × 10-2g / ml,the uterus muscle strips of rats and non-pregnant human uterine muscle strips have a certain degree of excitatory effect.In uterine muscle strips of uterus,estrus specimens are most sensitive to verbena.When verbena is added,it often causes tension and contraction amplitudes to increase simultaneously.In other stages,specimens often only have increased systolic amplitude.Human uterine muscle strips respond weakly to verbena and generally only change their tension.In the uterus strip test of rats, Verbena gracilis and PGE2 had mutual reinforcing effect,but only had additive effect with PGF2a. When verbena is sufficiently excitable in the concentration of uterine smooth muscle,there is no obvious effect on jejunal smooth muscle,nor does it enhance the effect of PGE2 on jejunal smooth muscle.

  4.Other effects:Verbena officinale has a small amount of sympathetic nerve endings that are excited and inhibited;on mammals,it promotes milk secretion.

  5.Toxicity:The toxicity is very low,it is not hemolyzed and it has a parasympathetic effect.
